Birmingham based lawyer Verona Cocks of law firm Weightmans has become the firm’s 100th Partner following her promotion from Associate early June.
Her promotion comes at a busy time for the firm after it recently announced record turnover of £50 million for the 2007/2008 financial year – a rise of 14% (£6.2 million) on last year.
Verona joined the firm as an Associate in 2006 to launch its Commercial Dispute Resolution and Insolvency team in the Midlands. Working out of the firm’s Birmingham and Leicester offices where she and her team of four service clients across the whole region, she now has a significant client base. Said Andrew Cox, head of Commercial Dispute Resolution at Weightmans:
“Verona has established a strong dispute resolution team in the Midlands and she fully deserves to be recognised for her commitment and achievements. We now plan to build on her success by pursuing further strategic growth in the Midlands.”
Weightmans’ commercial business line posted a record 35% growth on last year’s performance; a result fuelled by home grown talent, a number of high quality lateral hires and client wins. Verona's promotion amongst others signifies the firm's commitment to its midlands operations and to being recognised as a major national commercial practice.
Verona has broad experience in all areas of commercial disputes and contentious insolvency. Commenting on her promotion Verona said:
“This is a great achievement for me personally and I now aim to continue to drive forward the development of our dispute resolution and insolvency offering in the region and to strengthen the platform from which we deliver our commercial services in Birmingham and Leicester.”
Verona launched her legal career with corporate law firm Martineau Johnson where she spent five years before joining Cobbetts’ Birmingham operation and finally Weightmans in 2006.
